What changed on qubbit, newest first: new tools and reports, things that work better, and fixes.
Your own digest hour, a cookie banner and a privacy page
v0.13.0 ·
NewGeneral
You choose which cookies the site may use
Before any analytics or advertising cookie is set, a banner now asks: Accept all, Reject all, or Choose one of the two. Advertising lets OpenAI see when a visit from one of its ads leads to a sign-up. Change your answer any time from Cookie settings in the qubbit menu.
When you subscribe or manage your digest, you can now choose the time it arrives (08:00 by default) and your time zone, which is filled in from your browser. If you subscribed earlier, it keeps arriving at 08:00 UTC until you change it.
The new Privacy window says what is collected, why, who else handles it, how long it is kept and which cookies are used. It opens from the qubbit menu and from beside every form that asks for your address or a message.
A new What's new window lists the changes you would notice in each release, newest first, and you can filter them by area. Open it from the desktop or the qubbit menu.
Each day on the news page now has one card per source, with its updates sorted under the same topic groups as the digest and each GitHub release on one line. Above the days, the total shows a count per source.
Sign-up forms tell you when an address cannot get email
If an address bounced or marked our emails as spam before, the digest and keep me posted forms now say so and ask for another address, instead of asking you to try again.
ImprovedGeneral
The font no longer comes from Google
Pages and Theme Check reports now load their font from qubbit itself, so opening them no longer sends your IP address to Google Fonts.
ImprovedChangelog digest
Addresses that get nothing are deleted after 30 days
An address that receives nothing, because its sign-up was never confirmed, it unsubscribed or our emails to it kept failing, is now deleted 30 days after its last change. This covers the digest and news sign-ups.
Theme Check said your theme is deleted after the scan, but the uploaded file was kept. It is now deleted 30 days after the upload, and the page says so. Your report stays until you ask for it to be removed.
Ask AI can no longer read the email and postal addresses of stores and app vendors, so its answers never show them. The reports that count them are unchanged.
The Apps tab has a new report that counts the apps launched on the App Store each month. Only apps listed today are counted, so delisted apps are left out.
Sources with more than a dozen categories now have a search box in the picker. It opens the groups that match, and pressing Enter no longer submits the form.
Each digest now starts with how many updates there are and where they come from, followed by one section for merchants and one for developers. A section with nothing in it is left out.
Updates from sources with categories are now boxed by the topic groups you ticked, with anything else under Other. Each GitHub release takes a single line. The plain-text email follows the same layout.
When you subscribe or manage your digest, sources are split into For merchants and For developers, and categories sit in foldable groups such as Checkout & payments. You can tick or clear a whole group at once.
The App launches, Vendor evolution and Stores created over time charts now show months with nothing in them as 0, so gaps no longer look shorter than they are.
With your system in dark mode and the site switched to light, checkboxes, scrollbars and other controls were drawn dark. An empty checkbox looked like a filled square.
FixedEcosystem reports
App timelines no longer break on unusual dates
A single App Store listing with a launch date written like Sept 5, 2020 could break both app timelines.
The keep me posted form and the digest sign-up now check for bots before sending a confirmation email. Most people see nothing, and a click is asked for only now and then. The digest form allows five sign-ups an hour per address.
A better desktop on phones
v0.10.3 ·
ImprovedGeneral
A simpler menu bar on phones
On a phone, the menu bar shows only the qubbit menu, and the other menus open inside it. The bar no longer runs into the theme switch.
ImprovedGeneral
Desktop icons on phones
On a phone, the desktop icons now appear once every window is closed, in a three-column grid that scrolls when the screen is short.
Faster Ask AI answers
v0.10.1 ·
ImprovedAsk AI
Ask AI answers sooner
Ask AI now runs on a quicker model, so answers come back faster.
The digest sign-up form has an optional box for occasional qubbit news. The digest's confirmation link confirms it too, and leaving it empty changes nothing.
The keep me posted cards on the home and report pages now email you a confirmation link, and news starts only after you click it. You can sign up even if you already get the digest or unsubscribed before.
ImprovedChangelog digest
Your news choice on the manage page applies right away
Ticking or clearing qubbit news on the manage page takes effect at once, and the box is ticked only when you have agreed to it.
ImprovedChangelog digest
Unsubscribing from news keeps your digest
The unsubscribe link in a qubbit news email stops only the news, and your digest keeps coming. Stop all emails on the manage page ends both.
ImprovedChangelog digest
Clearer form errors
When the subscribe or manage form has a problem, the window scrolls to the first error. Errors about sources or frequency also show under the Subscribe button, where screen readers announce them.
The map's country panel now always has a scrollbar and a More below button while there is more further down. It scrolls with the keyboard, and each country opens at the top.
Each question, its answer and the query behind it are now saved, linked only to random ids for the chat and the browser. No IP address or other details about you are stored, and saving never slows an answer.
Digest emails now work with your mail app's own unsubscribe button, which stops them right away.
ImprovedChangelog digest
Marking the digest as spam unsubscribes you
If you mark the digest as spam, or your address stops accepting mail, you are unsubscribed automatically.
A more reliable digest
v0.6.1 ·
FixedChangelog digest
The digest no longer misses or repeats updates
Updates a feed publishes late now go into your next digest instead of being skipped, the same digest is never sent twice, and a problem with someone else's email no longer holds up yours.
The Shopify ecosystem report
v0.4.0 ·
NewEcosystem
Shopify ecosystem report
A new Ecosystem menu opens the report: totals and country counts for Shopify shops, apps and themes, with highlights. The data is refreshed every week, and shops, apps and themes no longer listed are removed.
Ask a question in plain English and get the answer as a chart or a table, with the query it ran. You can ask ten questions every ten minutes, and your questions are never sent to analytics.
On a phone, the dock scrolls sideways when too many windows are open.
Report a bug, Contact and a smoother dock
v0.3.0 ·
NewGeneral
Report a bug and Contact
Two new windows with a form each, in the dock and on the desktop, or in the qubbit menu on a phone. A bug report also sends your browser and the page you were on. Leave your address if you want a reply.
The menu bar shows your date and time in your own time zone, next to the theme switch. A phone shows only the time.
NewGeneral
A qubbit icon in your browser tab
The site now has its own icon, a white q on teal, in browser tabs and on phone home screens.
ImprovedGeneral
Smoother dock magnification
The icon under the pointer grows, its neighbours grow less, and they shrink back smoothly, much like on macOS. App names show as soon as you point at an icon.
ImprovedGeneral
The dock fits on small phones
The dock is smaller on a phone, so it fits on a narrow screen with every window open.
RemovedGeneral
The Window menu
Every window already has its own minimize, maximize and close buttons.
RemovedChangelog digest
Shopify Status in the digest
A daily or weekly email could only report incidents that were already over. If you had it ticked, your other sources stay as they are.
qubbit becomes a desktop
v0.2.0 ·
NewGeneral
qubbit is now a desktop
Every page opens in its own window, with a menu bar at the top, shortcuts on the wallpaper and a dock at the bottom. Each page still has its own link.
You can move, resize, minimize, maximize and close windows, and windows in the background keep their page. On a narrow screen a window fills the screen.
NewGeneral
A dock that works like a taskbar
The dock shows one icon per open window, in the order you opened them, and magnifies icons on hover unless your system asks for reduced motion.
NewGeneral
A wallpaper for day and night
The light theme shows misty mountains by day, and the dark theme shows the same scene at night under the moon and stars.
NewGeneral
About window
Open About from the desktop, the dock or the qubbit menu to read about Bogdan: profile, contact links, certifications, skills and selected projects.
The site now counts page views and how the tools are used. No email addresses are sent and no profile is built about you.
FixedChangelog digest
Old confirmation links no longer subscribe you again
Clicking an old confirmation email, or a mail scanner opening it, could sign you back up after you had unsubscribed. Old links now say they are no longer valid.
Cookies on qubbit
Every tool works without them. If you agree, PostHog counts visits so I can see which tools get used, and OpenAI measures whether its ads bring people here. Privacy and cookies
